"Some of us are perfectionists. We spend a lot of time trying to put together our lives like a 20 piece jigsaw puzzle. Perfectionists see their lives as pieces that must fit. If it does not fit, angst ensues. The only answer must be to throw the piece out and look for a new piece. Well, if you are constantly shifting, shape-changing, and trading out 20 irregular and ever-evolving pieces, you set yourself up for failure. To put it simply, you set yourself up to fail, until the day you become one with dirt.
Which brings me to the point (of this email). I read something this morning that resonated with me completely.
"It's not about being perfect, but really staying true to your character, and to the spirit of your character and to yourself. You should never take yourself too seriously--to be human is what really matters most"
To me, a statement like that means that there is just one piece to the puzzle, not 20. Take that one piece, smooth out the edges, and if you take a step back, you'll find that the end product is a vast landscape, a mural, a painting that is something much more, something with far more depth than any perfectionist with 20 pieces to fit could ever hope to accomplish."
